Speechbreaker
Client:
The Liberal Democrats
Agency:
Lean Mean Fighting Machine
Role:
Art Director / Designer
The Lib Dems were looking for a fun viral idea to help ignite their 2010 election campaign
Inspired by the likes of the wonderful Cassetteboy, the Keynote speeches from Britain’s three core party conferences provided the perfect material. I helped design a simple website where all three party leaders’ speeches were chopped up and displayed as single key words, allowing audiences to create alternative speeches via a simple drag and drop mechanism. The twist being that Nick Clegg had a limited selection of words so he couldn’t be stitched up.
Audiences were then able to jam up YouTube’s digital pipelines with mischievous speeches to then be shared across the social ether.

There’s a mischievous and playful element of gamification in these ads that, along with a meticulous attention to detail, which became a hallmark in Lean Mean Fighting Machine’s campaigns.
